Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has left many Kenyans astonished after flaunting a watch he claimed cost around 16 million shillings or more.
This comes as some Kenyans are puzzled by how the leader can show off such an expensive watch while the nation grapples with numerous challenges, particularly economic ones.
Speaking on the Obinna Show, he explained how he acquired the watch.
“I was given the watch by a former prime minister of another country. There were two, and I never even knew how much they cost,” Oscar Sudi said.
“Sometimes, Kenyans are on the wrong side. This watch wasn’t made for trees or cows; it was made for humans. Who do you want to wear this watch? Let’s stop being envious and greedy,” he added.
This sparked a strong reaction among Kenyans online, with many filled with anger and frustration.
“From a prime minister? That’s our taxes,” wrote 5star Nick on Instagram.
“We’re not fools!” added Young Brian.
“Even Ruto was gifted a 200 million shilling plane to the US,” commented Hamolitz with laughter.
“Imagine being in a country where the minimum wage is less than a dollar, and you talk about a 17 million shilling watch. Many Kenyans are suffering; many of my patients die because they lack 1/20 of this watch’s cost,” said Dr. Japrado online.
Indeed, many leaders in Kenya have been known to boast about their wealth.
Previously, former Minister of Roads Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen also stunned many when he told the public that he wears a watch worth 900,000 shillings.
