Tension is mounting at the Kandanda House in Nairobi as reports suggest that Nick Mwendwa is contemplating withdrawing from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections scheduled for December 7.
Mwendwa, who is running alongside Doris Petra, is said to have confided in his inner circle that the ground reality is not favorable after his opponent, Hussein Mohammed, secured over 70% of the vote in the county branch polls conducted yesterday.
An insider at Kandanda House, speaking under anonymity for fear of reprisal, painted a picture of unease within the federation’s offices.
“Today, the atmosphere in the office was not the usual one. Many colleagues were unusually quiet, and Nick took hours to report to work,” the source revealed.
The county-level elections, completed across most regions on Thursday, provided a glimpse into the upcoming FKF national polls.
Early results indicated that Team Fresh, led by Hussein Mohammed and McDonald Mariga, outperformed their competitors in several counties, including Western Kenya.
In contrast, Mwendwa’s Team Blue faced unexpected setbacks, intensifying the anxiety within his camp.
“Yesterday’s results have caused significant tension. There are rumors that the boss [Nick Mwendwa] might withdraw from the race before December 7,” the source added.
Hussein Mohammed’s commanding performance has bolstered his momentum heading into the national elections.
Nick Mwendwa, who has led FKF since 2016, faces an uphill battle to secure re-election amid these developments.
