The recent arrest of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the main suspect in the Mukuru kwa Njenga killings, has unearthed a series of chilling revelations.
Among the most heart-wrenching testimonies comes from Khalusha’s mother-in-law, who shared her harrowing account of losing her daughter, Khalusha’s first victim, during a press briefing at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.
Kenya’s National Police apprehended Khalusha, 33, during the Euro 2024 final match between England and Spain over the past weekend.
Described by authorities as a “psychopathic serial killer with no respect for human life,” Khalusha has admitted to murdering 42 women, starting with his wife in 2022.
Khalusha’s mother-in-law, whose identity has been withheld for privacy, recounted her regular contact with her daughter, Kamenya, until her sudden disappearance.
“Alikuwa amepotea. Lakini sometimes alikuwa kwa mtandao ana chat na wengine. Lakini wakati ilifika 2022, account yake ikanyamaza. Ata akitextiwa hawezi rudisha. Tangu wakati hiyo sikumskia tena. Ndio nimeskia leo ripoti ameuawa,” she said, her voice filled with anguish.
She explained that her daughter’s social media presence dwindled in 2022, and she became unresponsive to WhatsApp messages. This sudden silence was unusual and deeply concerning.
Despite her efforts to reach out, there was no response, and she lost all contact with her daughter. The mother-in-law revealed that she learned about her daughter’s death only after Khalusha’s arrest and confession.
Chief of DCI, Mohammed Amin, confirmed that Khalusha’s killing spree began with his wife and continued up to four days before his capture.
The DCI is conducting a thorough investigation into Khalusha’s claims, though the exact number of bodies recovered from the Kware area remains unclear.
