Veteran media personality Joyce Gituro recently opened up about the hurdles she has faced while navigating the dating scene as a single mother, following the end of her marriage.
In a candid interview with YouTuber Lynn Ngigi, Joyce shared her experiences and reflections on relationships after being dumped by her husband years ago.
As a mother of three—two sons and a daughter—Joyce discussed how challenging it was to date as a single mother.
She admitted that at one point, the dating scene was so tough that she considered returning to her former husband.
“There is this thing about dating as a single mother. People date you differently,” she explained, highlighting the stigma that often comes with being a single parent in the dating world.
Joyce spoke about the unique treatment single mothers receive, expressing her admiration for men who genuinely embrace single mothers and respect their children without ulterior motives.
She shared her experience of being in a two-year relationship that initially seemed promising but eventually exposed its flaws. The relationship lacked concern for her children, which led her to question its future.
“Dating as a single mother, I was shocked. It started as a good relationship, but I began to wonder, where are we headed?” Joyce recounted.
Reflecting on her dating journey, Joyce admitted that she fell into the trap of a rebound relationship after her marriage ended.
She emphasized the dangers of entering a relationship without fully understanding one’s feelings, noting that the breakup of this rebound relationship left her more emotionally devastated than her divorce.
In a previous interview, Joyce revealed that her marriage failed due to red flags she had ignored early on, such as her husband’s insecurity and controlling behavior.
His abrupt departure from their lives, coupled with his absence for a year, created challenges that she had to navigate as a single mother.
