On Wednesday evening, government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura and State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed both publicly denied claims made by lawyer and activist Morara Kebaso that President William Ruto had reached out to him with a job offer in the government.
Morara, who has been exposing failed projects that were previously launched by the president in recent weeks, appeared on Citizen TV Wednesday night, where he claimed that the president had sent his representatives to talk to him before directly calling him to offer him a job.
The lawyer, through his Twitter page, stood by his claims, stating that he would not focus on proving whether the call with the president took place. He also made it clear that he had no intention of joining the Kenya Kwanza government.
“I will not follow the footsteps of those leaders who recorded the president or put him on loudspeaker to prove a point. I don’t think it’s good behavior. For that reason, I will not focus on proving whether it happened or not,” Morara Kebaso wrote.
He added, “Isaac Mwaura knows it happened. William Ruto knows what happened. End of story. Let’s focus on undoing the mess. That call holds no significance in the fight for good governance and the eradication of corruption. Let’s not change the conversation. The nation knows who the liar is between me and Dr. William Ruto.”
In response to the lawyer, spokesperson Isaac Mwaura denied any knowledge of a conversation between Morara and the President.
He also denied ever discussing a job offer with the young lawyer and clarified their recent encounter.
“I am not aware of any call from the President to you. Please examine your conscience and show patriotism. I met you at KICC as I would any fellow citizen. Be honest with yourself,” Mwaura responded.
State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, when called by journalist Jeff Koinange, also denied the claims that President Ruto had called Morara, labeling them as false.
“It’s simply unbelievable. I’m shocked by what Morara is saying. I wonder why he’s lying on national TV that the president called him. Such a call never happened; it’s just in his imagination,” Hussein said.
He also criticized Jeff for not challenging Morara’s claims, stating that the journalist should have demanded evidence.
