Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his criticism of Farouk Kibet, a prominent aide to President William Ruto, accusing him of threatening Members of Parliament from the Mt. Kenya region.
In a bold statement made during a joint interview at his official residence in Karen, Gachagua labeled Kibet as a significant adversary to the region’s political interests.
Gachagua’s claims point to a growing division within Kenya’s ruling party, as he alleged that Kibet has been using intimidation tactics against MPs who attend events with him.
“Farouk Kibet and Mwangi Kiunjuri are the greatest enemies of the Mt. Kenya region,” Gachagua declared, indicating a deepening rift within the political establishment that could reshape alliances and influence in the area.
The Deputy President’s accusations come at a time of heightened political sensitivity, with the Mt. Kenya region being a critical electoral base.
In addition to his accusations against Kibet, Gachagua recounted a shocking incident involving an assassination attempt on one of his aides. He claimed that National Intelligence Service (NIS) officers were implicated in the attack, during which his aide was shot by gunmen on a motorcycle.
“A bullet was fired; instead of hitting his head, it landed on his shoulder,” Gachagua explained, describing how the aide required a week-long hospital stay to remove the bullet.
Further compounding the intrigue, Gachagua accused political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi of acting as an NIS agent who uses social media to sway public opinion.
