SportyBet Limited has quietly re-entered the Kenyan market, circumventing regulatory scrutiny by leveraging virtual platforms and proxy partnerships. This move follows the company’s official cessation of operations in 2024 due to a contentious tax dispute with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), which accused SportyBet of under-declaring income, leading to a Ksh 5 billion tax claim.

Despite the suspension of its license and the freezing of its bank accounts and paybill numbers by the KRA, SportyBet has resumed operations through alternative channels. Industry insiders report that the company is collaborating with licensed operators in Kenya to re-establish its presence without direct exposure to regulatory oversight.

The company’s official website now indicates that SportyBet Kenya is operated by Dreamhub Technology Limited, a separate entity that claims full authorization and regulation by the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB). This strategic maneuver allows SportyBet to continue offering its services to Kenyan users while distancing itself from the regulatory challenges it previously faced
