A man from Bomet is in distress after losing KSh 2.8 million meant for his studies abroad through betting on Aviator, a popular online gambling game.
Dismas Mutai, who had secured a scholarship to study a Master of Science in International Project Management at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) London Campus, has expressed deep regret and frustration after the financial loss.
According to reports, Mutai’s parents had sold a piece of land to raise the required money for his travel and other expenses.
However, instead of using the funds as planned, he allegedly placed bets on Aviator, hoping to multiply the amount. Unfortunately, he lost everything, leaving him in a desperate situation.
Taking to social media, Mutai shared his anguish, admitting that he had made a terrible mistake that had left him battling depression.
He pleaded for help from well-wishers, including politicians, while apologizing to his family for letting them down.
“I’m not okay; I will no longer pretend to be okay. I have fallen into a disastrous trap that I never anticipated in my life. Depression is slowly taking me to the grave. Aviator flew away with over KSh 2.8 million of people’s money,” he wrote.
In his emotional plea, Mutai asked his mother and the entire family for forgiveness, acknowledging that he had disappointed them.
He also requested members of his community to give him another chance to recover from the loss and become a testimony for others struggling with gambling addiction.
“Perhaps the UK was not meant for me, but just give me a chance to survive so that I can be a living testimony to many,” he added.
