Deputy President William Ruto on Monday, 9th May, received Kilifi County Speaker Jimmy Kahindi to the Kenya Kwanza camp.
Kahindi who decamped from Raila Odinga Orange Democratic Party was accompanied by Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa.
”We welcome the speaker of Kilifi County Assembly Jimmy Kahindi (ODM/Azimio) to Kenya Kwanza. This is the coalition for the economic empowerment of ordinary Kenyans,” DP Ruto wrote on his social media pages.
Hon Kahindi’s latest move to join DP Ruto camps comes at a time when Kilifi County Governor Hon Amazon Kingi is speculated to be on his way to the Kenya Kwanza alliance after the fallout with Azimio One Kenya Coalition.
Meanwhile, Governor Alfred Mutua on Monday ditched the Azimio la Umoja coalition party and joined the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
He said on that the Maendeleo Chap Chap party had signed an agreement with Kenya Kwanza on Sunday night after they were sidelined in Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap leader said the party believes William Ruto is the best to liberate Kenyans from the york of poverty.
“We (Maendeleo Chap Chap) are convinced that the best team to transform Kenya is Kenya Kwanza and the leader to transform Kenya is William Ruto. I am aware that 5 other parties are planning to leave Azimio due to their dishonesty and zoning,” the Machakos Governor stated.
While announcing his exit from Azimio, Governor Mutua had a message for President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
The Governor thanked the Head of State for supporting his political career through the years.
“I wish to thank with utmost respect President Uhuru Kenyatta who will always be my friend for his support all these years. Rais wetu, hii ni siasa. I want to recognize my friendship and service to our country by ODM leader Raila Odinga for the transformation he has initiated so far,” Mutua stated.
On the exit clause, he said the constitution guarantees freedom of association.
“You cannot force people to be in an association they are not respected in,” Mutua said.
He said they agreed with Ruto on zero zoning. “All our aspirants will be on the ballot. We also agreed on the role we’ll play when Kenya Kwanza wins and vice versa.”
He said more parties have indicated they will be on their way out too. He didn’t reveal the names.
Mutua has been protesting exclusion from the Azimio coalition.
