Vihiga Queens have qualified for the maiden Women’s Champions league which will take place in Egypt later this year.
The Vihiga based side secured qualifications after beating Central Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) 2-1 in the finals of CECAFA Zonal qualifiers on Thursday, hence, earned the region’s sole ticket for the maiden Total Energies CAF Women’s champions league.
A last gasp penalty by Jentrix Shikangwa propelled the Queens to a 2-1 win against the Ethiopian side. Jentrix Shikangwa had given the host an early lead before Vivian Makokha scored an own goal to bring the visitors level.
Vihiga got to the finals after finishing second of Group B following comfortable wins over South Sudan and Djiboutian side FAD. They had earlier lose 4-2 against the CBE in the group stage.
Vihiga, who will aim to make history and win the first edition of the continental event becomes the 7th team to qualify after AS FAR (Morocco), Wadi Degla (Egypt), River Angels (Nigeria), Hasaacascs ladies (Ghana), and AS Mande (Mali)
