Harambee Starlets forward Neddy Akoth is confident Kenya will start on a high note against South Sudan when the two sides clash in the opening round of the 2020 Africa Women’s cup of Nation qualifiers.
Speaking ahead of the match, Ulinzi Starlets forward was elated after her reinstatement to the Harambee Starlets provisional squad and remained upbeat about Kenya’s chances of qualifying for the 2022 Africa Women’s cup of Nation.
“It’s is a great feeling to be back with the team. Being in camp for the last four days, I can say that the team is motivated and are risk takers which I believe is a key ingredient towards attaining a positive result against South Sudan,” Said Neddy Atieno.
With the knowledge gained during training sessions held at Kasarani Annex, she hopes to be impactful and help the team attain a positive result in their upcoming matches.
“With the knowledge and tactics gained during the training session, I hope to transcend it to the field that will, the long run, help us attain a positive result,” she added.
Harambee Starlets who failed to qualify for the 2018 AWCON competition after losing to Uganda and Equitorial Guinea in the qualifiers, will aim to bounce back in the Regional showpiece, and ultimately earn a slot in the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup that will be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.
Starlets are scheduled to play South Sudan in first leg on October 20 at the Nyayo Stadium. The return leg match will be played on October 24 at the same venue.
