FKF disbandment is permanent, Amina tells Fifa

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed asserted that the decision to disband the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will not change.

In a virtual meeting with Fifa Secretary General Fatma Samoura Wednesday, CS Amina maintained that the move to form a caretaker committee led by Retired Judge Aaron Ringera to run football activities in Kenya for the next six months, will remain intact.

Another meeting is scheduled for next week.

On Monday, FIFA threatened to impose a ban on Kenya in the wake of reported government interference in the management of football in the country.

In a letter addressed to sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammad, FIFA Secretary general Fatma Samoura said Amina’s move to install a caretaker committee to run the Football Kenya Federation is illegal.

“I have been made aware of the appointment of a so-called caretaker committee together with its secretariat in lieu of the FKF NEC. I must highlight this appointment is contrary to our principals in which all our members association are supported to independently manage their affairs. The situation could therefore lead to a ban of FKF by FIFA,” said Samoura.

Samoura,s letter came few days after FIFA, in a separate correspondence by Kenny Jean Marie, who is the head of Football Association, expressed concerns over the move by Kenya Sports CS to diband FKF and install a caretaker committee.
