Details of DP Ruto’s planned meeting with Raila and Uhuru after drama during BBI launch

In a drive to iron out their truce and culminate the ceasefire, Deputy President William Ruto is expected to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The DP and his allies agreed to the deal after a meeting with Mt Kenya elders on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.

The meeting was spearheaded by the council of elder’s patron and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin Kung’u Muigai, in the company of chairman Phares Rutere and the Nationhood Sector Principal Administrative Secretary Michael Ndung’u.

They discussed a number of issues, among others the need for the Deputy President to support the Building Bridges Initiative and to help President Kenyatta in his dream legacy of uniting the nation.

“Ruto is ready to engage with other leaders to strengthen the document, eliminate contentious issues, respect separation of powers and make it more focused on the issues about ordinary Kenyans,” DP’s spokesperson David Mugonyi stated.

Reports indicate that the elders have already secured a date with President Kenyatta, and are only looking forward to a statehouse approval.

They are also planning to meet ODM leader Raila Odinga once he jets in from his Congo tour for an appointment on the same.

This comes just days after the DP on Tuesday, October 26 laid bare his dissenting opinion of the document amid jeers from the crowd at the Bomas of Kenya during the launch.

The DP also hinted at a possible meeting with the leaders yesterday with a view to having an open dialogue.

“I want to ask leaders across Kenya not to engage in the divisive debate even if we are for the referendum.

“It is possible we have a win-win referendum. There is no gain in dividing the country,” Ruto stated.
