A few hours after reports emerged that nominated senator David Sankok son shot himself, Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula has come out guns blazing accusing ODM leader Raila Odinga of betraying his brother, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, who wanted to run for Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

Wanyonyi is Wetang’ula’s younger brother. The Bungoma senator claimed Raila ‘sacrificed’ his brother for Polycarp Igathe.

He was addressing Ford Kenya delegates at party offices in Bungoma town on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, while campaigning in his Westlands backyard, Wanyonyi said he agreed not to run for governor because his party leader, Raila Odinga, had been cleared to run for president under the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance.

Under the agreement, he said, it had been decided ODM takes the presidency while the Jubilee Party of President Uhuru Kenyatta takes the Nairobi governor’s seat.

“Because of the arrangement of parties to work together, it comes along with its challenges. Due to those challenges that it was agreed because ODM had been given the presidency, we had to relinquish the Nairobi governor’s seat for Jubilee,” Wanyonyi said.

But Wetang’ula claimed otherwise. He said Raila had a history of betraying allies.

“This is not the first time Raila Odinga is betraying fellow politicians in the country and we are going to teach him a lesson on August 9,” Wetang’ula said.

Wanyonyi was asked by ODM to shelve his bid in favour of Jubilee’s Polycarp Igathe, and instead seek to retain his Westlands parliamentary seat.

The deal was that Raila would be the Azimio flagbearer and, in exchange, Jubilee would ‘get’ the Nairobi governor’s seat.

Meanwhile, Deputy President William Ruto has sent a moving message to nominated MP David ole Sankok after his son Memusi Sankok shot himself dead.

In a tweet on Tuesday, May 3, the DP told the nominated MP that he was praying for him and his family as they mourned the loss of their beloved one.

“Mheshimiwa David Ole Sankok and the family, you are in our prayers and thoughts during this painful time. May God grant you strength to bear with the loss of your dear son,” Ruto tweeted.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Sankok’s 15-year-old son shot himself on Monday using the lawmaker’s firearm which he picked from Sankok’s bedroom.

The form three student at Kericho High School then blew up his head using the firearm in another room, DCI added.

According to the family, the 15-year-old was supposed to return to school last week but vanished after his father gave him money for shopping, only to reappear on Sunday.
