A medical officer in Uganda has been arrested for allegedly trying to exchange sex for a negative HIV test result with a female patient.
The woman, who was required to have a HIV test by a labour export company, went to the testing facility and was given positive results by the suspect. However, when she had a second test at a different facility, the results came back negative, prompting suspicion.
“She did the tests on February 6. On February 14, she was called by the suspect to go pick her results. The results indicated that she was HIV positive, which she disputed. She did another test at another facility and results came out negative,” Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire told the Daily Monitor on Sunday.
The suspect then offered to give the victim negative results if she would have sex with him, which she agreed to but informed the labor company who contacted the police.
“She informed our officers and they tracked the duo until they were in the lodge and it was time to have sex. That is when our officers stormed the area and arrested him and later took him to Nateete Police Station,” said Owoyesigyire.
After arranging a meetup at a hotel, the police arrested the suspect on charges of attempted rape, which carries a potential life sentence on conviction.
