Senator Ledama Olekina has expressed concern over the ongoing demonstrations in Kenya, claiming that the destruction of property by goons is being sponsored by the state.

In a statement issued on Monday, March 27, Olekina said that goons stationed at former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s land in Ruai had destroyed the fence and were subdividing the land as a condition to start pushing back Azimio demonstrators from there.

He warned that things were going to get nasty.

Olekina’s statement comes just hours after Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga issued a late-night message to his supporters alleging a sinister move by the government over his planned Monday, March 27, demonstrations.

In his letter, Raila claimed that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had plans to infiltrate his protests by recruiting rowdy youth to mix seamlessly with Azimio supporters and cause chaos.

Raila further alleged that some youth had also been recruited in Western and Nyanza regions to cause chaos under the guise that they were Azimio supporters.

Olekina’s concern adds to the growing apprehension in Kenya over the ongoing demonstrations, which have already been declared illegal by Police Inspector General Japhet Koome and Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.

Despite this, the Azimio coalition has maintained that it will continue with the demonstrations, with its leaders warning of government-sponsored violence against its supporters.

The government, on its part, has maintained that it will not tolerate violence or any actions that will disrupt the peace and stability of the country.
