Leaders from the Ukambani region have called on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to choose his coalition partners wisely.

The leaders led by a section of Wiper members urged the Kalonzo to get into a coalition that is likely to win.

They warned Kalonzo, who had remained adamant about running for the presidency in the next year’s elections, that he should not be attempted to go alone in the next election if he wants to be in the next government.

Wiper vice-chairperson Mutula Kilonzo noted that the former vice president still has strong support in the Eastern region but he needs to fix his eyes on the winning coalition.

“For Kalonzo, going it alone is not a winning formula,” Senator Mutula told a local daily.

“Going it alone could can in play if the idea is a second-round matrix,” he added.

Mutula’s statement comes at a time when reports indicate that both Deputy President William Ruto and Raila Odinga’s side are seeking his support.

Political observers have noted that the Wiper leader is a key factor in determining which group might determine the next government.

Analysis shows that Kalonzo delivered over 1.3 million votes to Raila Odinga in both the 2013 and 2017 general elections and he is still a major player in Eastern Kenya politics.

It is said that it is his influence in the Eastern that he will be a key factor in the 2022 general elections depending on which coalition he chooses to join.
