Last week Deputy President William Ruto summoned top government officials including Cabinet Secretaries to his Karen residence for Inter-governmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) meeting.
Some of the government officials that were invited to the meeting included Cabinet Secretaries Ukuru Yatani (Treasury), Peter Munya (Agriculture), George Magoha (Education), Charles Keter (Devolution) and James Macharia ( Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works). The Council of Governors (CoG) were also invited to the meeting.
It has now emerged that some of the Cabinet Secretaries have confirmed that they will miss the meeting with others are yet to confirm their attendance.
CS Yatani, a permanent member of IBEC by the virtue of heading the National Treasury has confirmed he will miss the meeting that is set for today, Monday, November 22.
“I am out of the country but my officers will be there,” Yatani said as reported by a local daily.
CS Macharia is another CS who has confirmed his absentia from the meeting. The Transport CS said that he will be accompanying President Uhuru Kenyatta for an official duty to South Africa.
CSs Magoha and Munya have, however, yet to confirm whether they will attend the meeting or not.
On the other side, there is a section of those who have confirmed their attendance at the meeting. Some of them include Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o and County Assemblies Forum chairman Ndegwa Wahome.
Others include members of the Council of Governors including Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Murithi
