UDA will have no automatic candidate in 2022, Ruto tell aspirants

Deputy President William Ruto has said there will be no automatic candidates for any seat in the newly formed United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2022 General Elections.

Ruto said the party was formed on democracy and therefore, candidates running for various seat would be subjected to free and fair election.

The DP spoke on Thursday when he meet grassroots leaders in Nakuru County at his Karen home. He added that the nomination certificates will not be handed to the highest bidders or those close to him but those who have the support of the masses.

“Our nomination certificates will not be about how close you are to the DP but about the support you have from the masses,” he said.

He said even those who want to view for the Presidency seat through UDA are free to join the party and take him head on

“Those who want to run against me, let them come and declare their candidature, we will compete fairly and the winner will be given the ticked. We will all support the winner and move forward as a party,” he assured.

He encouraged aspirants to enlist people as Party members so that at the time of nomination, they can fall back to those enlisted as party members.

He further stated that UDA will be the new Jubilee party, saying that even before the 2022 polls, it had the support of 150 sitting MPs compared to old parties like ODM, Wiper and ANC.

“We already have 150 MPs yet old outfits such as ODM has less than 80mps, Wiper has less than 20 MPs while ANC has less than 10Mps,” Ruto said.

He challenged the BBI proponents led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to ask for forgiveness for wasting four years chasing wind at the expense of the government projects.
