A section of Busia Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have thrown their weight behind Principal Administrative Secretary (PAS) in the Executive Office of the President, Arthur Amug Osiya, endorsing him to unseat Governor Paul Otuoma in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The bold declaration was made during a well-attended event in Bumala town, Butula Constituency, where Osiya was donating President William Ruto’s KSh 2 million to the Marachi SACCO to boost small-scale traders.
At least 30 MCAs, both former and sitting, stood by him, citing what they termed as failed leadership and broken promises under Otuoma’s tenure.
The leaders lashed out at the county administration for what they described as anti-business policies, including the controversial demolition of kiosks and market stalls without providing alternatives or compensation.
“We have witnessed very poor leadership. Vibanda mlibomolewa, maduka mumevunjwa, masoko zimetolewa bila mpango. Hiyo ni maisha gani?” posed former Burumba Ward MCA Halima Hussein. “Tunataka uongozi mzuri, na huo uongozi tutaupata kwa Arthur Amug Osiya.”
Former Samia Ward MCA Roselyne Auma Oduor echoed the sentiments, stating, “Marachi is crying, but even in Samia, we’ve seen nothing in terms of development. That’s why we’ve resolved to support Arthur Osiya. He’s a man who delivers.”
Teso South MCA Orengo added, “Busia has lost its glory. Even the name has faded. Under Otuoma’s watch, nothing has moved. Osiya has a track record of structure, planning, and job creation ,especially for the youth.”
Former Mayenje Ward MCA David Luyembe concluded by calling Osiya the only leader with the courage and capacity to revive Busia.
“He listens. He plans. He acts. And that’s what Busia needs to rise again.”
Also present was Marachi West MCA Simon Maina, who, while not explicitly endorsing Osiya, expressed sentiments that subtly signaled political alignment.
Malaba North MCA Patrick Omanyala used the occasion to caution against tribal politics, urging Busia residents to unite behind capable leadership rather than ethnic divisions.
Other leaders present included Gardy Obara Jakaa (Bukhayo North), Zaccheaus Kubasu (Marachi North), and a host of former MCAs such as Grace Olita, Asiba, Godfrey Mareba, George Busera, Gomba Sewe, Patrick Obuya, Felix Omanyi, and Julius Ochou, all of whom expressed support for Osiya’s potential gubernatorial bid.
