Deputy President William Ruto has announced that he will hold a political rally in Nairobi on Sunday at the Jacaranda Stadium in Easterlands, Nairobi as a move that observers claim is meant to water down Raila Odinga’s gain in his rally in Thika, Kiambu County.
Raila’s rally which has been termed by his handlers as “the mothers of all Azimio rallies’ is said to have thrown cold shivers to the Deputy President’s camp hence forcing them to hold a similar rally a few kilometres away from Raila’s Azimio rally.
Ruto’s men have however claimed that their Sunday rally is meant for interaction between UDA aspirants and the common wananchi in Nairobi.
“Let’s meet at Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi East for a dialogue about the future of Kanairo and the country. Share your thoughts on how we can make the great city of Kanairo better. We are listening!” Ruto’s party UDA said while announcing the rally.
Ruto’s rally is a culmination of several other political rallies he has held in Nairobi for the past week.
The Thika rally will mark Raila’s public rally since announcing his bid for the presidential race on December 10 last year.
Organisers led by businessman David Ngari revealed that they expect about 20,000 people from Mt Kenya region together with 300 leaders including governors, senators, woman reps and MPs among others to attend the meeting.
Before heading to Thika stadium where he is expected to hold the rally, the former Prime Minister is expected to meet delegates from Thika and other parts of the Mt Kenya region toat Happy Valley Grounds, in Mt Kenya University in Thika.
