Outrage as Kawira Mwangaza Returns to Work Despite Senate Impeachment

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has stirred outrage after resuming her official duties on Friday, August 23, despite her recent impeachment by the Senate.

Her return to office, under heavy security, has intensified the political drama that has engulfed the county, raising questions about the legality of her actions.

Mwangaza’s impeachment, which the Senate endorsed earlier in the week, was seen as a decisive move to end her controversial tenure.

However, the Governor defied expectations by reappearing at her office on Thursday, and it soon became clear that she had resumed full control of county operations.

This bold move has sparked protests from Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), who have been vocal in their disapproval.

Senator Kathuri Murungi, a key figure in the ongoing political turmoil, publicly urged Mwangaza to hold off on resuming her duties until the courts rule on her petition challenging the impeachment.

His plea, however, went unheeded, as the Governor continued to assert her authority.

On Friday, she convened a meeting with her Cabinet, a fact she proudly shared on social media.

“This afternoon, I was delighted to meet with the Cabinet to discuss and advance key initiatives aimed at addressing pressing issues within our county,” Mwangaza posted on Facebook.

Meanwhile, security at the county headquarters has been ramped up to prevent clashes between Mwangaza’s supporters and those backing her deputy.
