Narok West MP Gabriel Tongoyo and his counterpart Narok East MP Ken Aramat have condemned the withdrawal of General Service unit officers from all the Deputy President’s residents and replace them with Adminstration Police.
Tongoyo and Aramat termed the move as unconstitutional and ill-timed alleging friction between the President and his Deputy.
They say the withdrawal is the latest installment in a sustained and systematic effort to undermine the Deputy President personal security in pursuit of vendetta saying it exposes him to personal harm.
They demanded the government to provide detailed explanation on the change of guards and prove without a shadow of doubt that the move was not politically instigated.
On Thursday afternoon, The General Service unit protecting the DP’S official residence in Karen, Nairobi and his rural Sugoi home was removed in unclear circumstances and replaced by the Administration Police.
On the change of guards, police spokesman Bruno Shioso said the change was normal.
He said police through its various units are mandated to provide security to government buiodbuil and critical infrastructures including VVIPS and their residence.
“Today August 26, 2021, the security Government Building Unit has been deployed to provide general security to the official residence to the Deputy President and take over from the GSu.
“This is normal re-assignment of duties within the National Police Service to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.”
He added the Presidential Escort unit will continue to provide close protection security to the DP.
