Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s hold on the Mt Kenya region’s leadership has taken a hit after a section of lawmakers from Mt Kenya East endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as their regional leader.
The endorsement, which took place during a parliamentary group meeting in Embu, signals a shift in regional dynamics as leaders look for stronger representation within the national government.
The MPs, drawn from Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Meru counties, unanimously agreed that Kindiki should serve as the link between them and the executive.
This decision was publicly announced by Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku during a press conference on Monday.
“As the legislators of Mt. Kenya East, and on behalf of our people, we have unanimously agreed that the link between us and the executive is Prof. Kithure Kindiki,” Ruku stated, solidifying the group’s support for the Interior CS.
The meeting, held at a hotel in Embu, focused on the socio-economic development and political agenda for the region. The leaders emphasized the need for a strong connection with the executive to advance Mt Kenya East’s priorities.
They expressed confidence that with Kindiki as their representative, their region would gain greater recognition in the national agenda.
