As political temperature rise in the country, Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Wambugu Ngunjiri has addressed Deputy President William Ruto barely a few days after they faced off in an ugly confrontation in Nyeri.
Wambugu who is one of DP Ruto’s sharpest critics is part of the Members of Parliament who were invited for a retreat in Naivasha by President Uhuru Kenyatta to chart the way forward on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report after it was launched in Bomas by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
During his interview with K24 TV on a punchline show while in Naivasha, Wambugu stated that they respect Ruto as the second in command but they will not allow him to hold the country at ransom.
“We respect you as the Deputy President but you can’t hold the country back. I think he is trying to stall the process…of course you’ll understand if many of us don’t take what he has to say in good faith,” Wambugu stated.
Participants at the meeting have picked up issues with DP Ruto and his Tanga Tanga brigade, reading malice in his deliberate misinformation and propaganda.
Contrary to facts, DP has been spreading false information that the BBI is aimed at creating positions for Raila Odinga.
Ruto has also expressed his reservations on the various parts of the BBI report and called for further review of the report before heading for a referendum.
The second in command was specifically concerned on the creation of the office of the Ombudsman, who will be appointed by the President under the new proposals which he had claimed that will undermine the independence of the constitution.
DP William Ruto had alleged that this will take the Kenyan judiciary to the dark days when the decision of the judiciary could be affected by even a phone call.
He further disagreed with the new proposal to create new positions of the Prime Minister and its two deputies, claiming that it will not solve the problem of winner takes it all.
