Chama Cha Mashinani Leader Isaac Rutto today held a three hour closed door meeting with AU Envoy Raila Odinga. Rutto was accompanied by former Roads Minister in the Grand Coalition Government Franklin Bett. The meeting comes barely a week after the three leaders attended the burial of Governor Joyce Laboso in Fort Tenan. Rutto and Laboso faced off in 2017 over the Bomet governor’s seat where Laboso carried the day.
The delegation from both Bomet and Kericho counties paid a courtesy call to the ODM leader at his Capitol Hill Offices in Nairobi to discuss a wide range of issues affecting the two counties. It is also believed Bomet politics were discussed after the demise of Governor Laboso.
Among issues discussed were the controversial Itare Dam and how its completion can be facilitated so that it serves the residents of both Bomet and Kericho. The dam’s construction has been shrouded with controversies which have led to its construction to be stopped.
It is also believed the former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto will be making a stab to the position once a by election has been called. On the other hand, Franklin Bett is also angling himself to capture the Kericho Governor’s seat in the next election, either through KANU or CCM.
