Focus was this week shifted to the sector of VIP protection, and the entire process that goes into it when assigning officers for this sensitive docket.
Fresh questions have arisen over back ground checks conducted, and the effectiveness of such, when choosing the men and women with who the government entrusts the lives of some of its senior most officials.
Although the week ended on a high for Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’I, with him escorting the president and gracing an event in which saw the opening of the first ever arms factory in the country, the week hadn’t began so positively.
Just days before the groundbreaking event in Ruiru which saw the commissioning of a Sh4 billion National Security Industries gun manufacturing factory, the country at large, and the CS himself in particular, woke up to disturbing and shocking news.
An officer attached to the ministry of Interior VIP protection unit had gone on a shooting rampage in Ruaraka, killing his wife, and later himself.
CS Matiang’I, an unwavering man known and revered for his firm and solid position was thrown off-balance by this news, something that he himself admitted to in his hurried tweet that was posted on the day the tragic news broke out, referring to “shock”.
“I am deeply pained by the tragic incident involving PC Hudson Wakise and his wife PC Pauline Wakasa both young and vibrant Police officers with brilliant futures tragically ended in their shocking demise,” the CS tweeted.
… young officers that we have no choice but to now pay greater attention to. My sincere condolences to their families and friends.

Questions abound concerning the safety of the ordinary mwananchi, after the horrifying midweek events in Ruaraka.
If even police officers themselves aren’t safe from the mental condition consequences of their fellow officers in the force? If some of the most powerful men in the country have unknowingly entrusted their lives into the hands of such officers? Then what chance does the ordinary civilian stand?
