Waiguru’s impeachment takes a drastic twist

The battle between Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and the members of the County Assembly has taken a new twist with the MCAs embarking on a mission to collect signatures to oust her.

The lawmakers now want to kick out Waiguru and her entire administration from power.

This is after the embattled Governor released a press statement castigating the MCAs for refusing to approve of the County budget for 2020-2021 fiscal year, amid claims that the document was marred with alterations and mutilations.

The governor claims the MCAs had removed 20Million meant for casual worker’s wages, 14.6 Million meant fueling Ambulances. 300Million meant for the health workers’ salaries was also moved to construction of ward assembly offices besides other alterations.

Waiguru declined to approve of the offensive budget claiming it is in contravention of the requirements of regulations (37)1 of the County Government financial Act of 2015, and the variation set limits.

Yesterday, a section of the ward representatives led by the majority leader and ward representative for Kerugoya  Kamau Murago, said they had begun collecting the signatures in all the 24 wards in Kirinyaga, and are intended to do the double figure of 60,000 signatures to enable the effect their mission of dissolving the executive successfully with ease.

“Already I have collected over 1000 signatures in my ward,” said the Majority Leader.

Waiguru however appealed to the senate, controller of budget and the Jubilee party leadership to intervene and save the county and her administration from the impending halt.

Reacting to her allegations, Barigwi MCA and the chairman of the County assembly budget committee Mr. David Mathenge dismissed her claims of alterations in the document.

“We have been asking for some papers from her office in vain and we did not remove any money from the budget,” said Mathenge.
