The delayed CECAFA Women’s Champion League zonal Qualifiers which has been moved twice is set to kick off on August 28th in Nairobi.
The showpiece that will involve 10 countries after Rwandan side Scandinavian pulled out citing COVID-19 challenges, was earlier scheduled to Kick-off on August 7 but was later postponed due to lack of playing ground in the host nation.
“Everything is set as we have secured a venue where the tournament will now be hosted from August 28th to September 9,” CECAFA CEO Auka Gecheo told this scribe on a phone interview.
The zonal CAF Women’s Champions League will be graced by seven teams which qualifiers through the zonal tournaments including Cecafa.
The CECAFA tournament will also be graced by teams from the member nations and Kenya being the host nation will bank on Vihiga Queens under the tutelage of experienced coach Alex Alumirah to star in the competition.
Auka further confirmed they are set to release the fixtures with the eventual winner of the tournament expected to represent the region in the Inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League to be held in Egypt later this year.
Following the announcement, Vihiga Queens are expected to hit the ground and join camp as they look to impress and make it to the champions league finals
