Residents of Mbita, Homa Bay County on Wednesday watched helplessly as a hippopotamus mauled a 10 year boy inside Lake Victoria. The helpless residents tried to shout at the animal as it carried the boy’s remains deeper in the lake.
Suba South Beach Management Unit Network chairman William Onditi and Karachuonyo Central MCA Julius Gaya have asked the KWS to station a response team nearby for emergency cases such as this.
“There should be officers on standby to tame the animals whenever they move out of the water. The officers can use their guns to scar them back to the water because civilians don’t have the ability to do so because we don’t have weapons,” he said.
