VIDEO: 22 People Suspected to Have Been in Close Contact with Coronavirus Patient, Quarantined at Mbagathi Hospital

At least 22 people suspected to have been in close contact with the country’s first confirmed coronavirus patient on Friday 13 March have been quarantined at Mbagathi Hospital in Nairobi.

The Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi speaking during a press briefing on Saturday 14 March, stated that 22 people who were in close contact with the patient were already in isolation at the Mbagathi isolation hospital.

“Specimen of the 22 people are currently undergoing testing at KEMRI, ” Mercy stated.

Mercy further stated that 23 passengers who travelled with the 27-year-old woman who tested positive for the deadly virus have been traced and urged to self-quarantine for 14 days as they were going to different destinations.

Health officials also went to the area the woman was residing to conduct tests on people who are believed to have interacted with the her and fumigated homes in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, near the patient’s home area.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe in a press conference on Friday 13 March confirmed the first case of coronavirus was in Kenya.

“I want to inform you that the Ministry of Health has confirmed the first case in Kenya. It was confirmed last night, Thursday, March 12,” Kagwe stated.
