Tension in Machakos as Kalonzo and Muthama nearly engage in fistfights [VIDEO]

Tension was yesterday witnessed in Machakos County after Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama clashed and almost engaged in fistfights at a funeral.

The two leaders met during the burial of AIC Bishop Benard Nguyo in Mitaboni when all ensued after Kalonzo took to the podium first to address the mourners.

His utterances in Kamba dialect would later touch on Muthama’s ex-wife Agnes Kavindu who is also an interested candidate in the upcoming Machakos senatorial by-elections a thing that did not go down so well with Muthama.

“After next year you will see Muthama running back to me. He knows where we are and where we are going. Even if he goes up and down, I will give him back his wife and tell him she’s now a senator,” Kalonzo said.

This annoyed Muthama to the level of the former senator charging towards Kalonzo in anger, and it only took the intervention of the MPs Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town) and Patrick Makau (Mavoko) to calm the situation.

Muthama would later be given a chance to speak but had to cut short his speech after the crowd booed him.

Also present at the funeral were governor Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Alfred Mutua (Machakos Governor), several MPs, and other leaders.

Kavindu is running for the Machakos senatorial seat on a Wiper ticket while Senator Muthama is supporting Urbanus Ngengele who is the UDA candidate for the mini poll slotted for March 3, 2021.

Muthama is the interim chairman for the DP Ruto’s linked new United Democratic Alliance party.

Kalonzo expressed confidence in the Kavindu candidature, adding that they had settled on her because of her leadership qualities rather than her relationship with Muthama.

“We have confidence that Agnes is going to be the next senator for Machakos County,” Kalonzo said. Kalonzo added that the party had settled on Kavindu because she was a leader on not because of her relationship with Muthama.
