Strike looms at Egerton University as lecturers threaten to down tools over the return to work formula.

More than 500 dons at the Egerton University who are members of the Universities Academic Staff Union(UASU) are expected to down their tool if their grievances wil not be addressed by 13th August,2021.

The dons, through a letter signed by the university chapter secretary Dr Grace Kibue during the special General Meeting (SGM) held at the University premises, resolved to withdraw their labour and  not resume duty untill their concerns are addressed fully.

The lecturers are accusing the university of backtracking on their agreement even without consultation with failure to honour the Return-to-work formular(RTWF) dated 30th November,2020.

They are also decrying on blatant violation of the universities workers’ fundamental rights and freedoms, and the violation of the collective Bargaining agreement between the employer and the union.

The University academic staff union demanded an explanation and review latest friday, failure to which they will give a strike notice.

“we agreed to get back to the normal 100 percent and the arrears which were 40 percent will be paid in halves so that every month we shall get 120 percent, but honestly speaking that CBA has not been implemented fully,”Said one of the lecturers who aired their grievances.
