Siaya Senator James Orengo has spoken about Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga vying for the 2022 presidency.
The Orange party had issued a notice calling all the interested applicants to submit their applications for the party’s 2022 presidential flag bearer which expired on March 31, 2021.
The Senate Minority leader James Orengo has said that they cannot force former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to contesting for Presidency come 2022 general elections.
In his statement, Orengo stated that the party could not forcefully put Raila on the ticket if he had no intention of running in 2022.
“We can’t force him (Odinga) to run. The decision lies with the ODM leader himself,” Orengo stated.
The Siaya Senator also noted the decision for Raila to vie for presidential post in 2022 elections squarely lies on him.
“I have on several occasions stated that I personally would wish for Raila to run for the presidency, but again, that decision is his to make,” he added.
The Senate Minority leader also noted that ODM’s prank during the April 1 fools day got the most attention.
“The whole debacle is a storm in a teacup (caused excitement about a trivial matter). There were other pranks that were carried on that day for example one that Obama was coming to Kenya, But the ODM prank is one that got the most attention,” The Siaya Senator stated.
According to Junet Mohammed, the party will convene a National Executive Council (NEC) to make a final decision on the matter that has caused confusion among party supporters.
The Orange party has only received 2022 Presidential nomination applications from Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya and his Mombasa counterpart Ali Hassan Joho.
