Sakaja; my dad was KFF treasurer, I recall the days of Joab Omino and the late Peter Kenneth!!!

As the race for different seats which will be up for grabs in 2022 begins to heat up, some of the early tactics already being witnessed point to a vicious contest that is likely to be marred by bad blood. While former KFF boss and Gatanga member of parliament Peter Kenneth has been touted as Raila Odinga’s possible running mate, he has also been mentioned as a likely candidate for the capital city’s governor. Sakaja, who has already declared his interest in the seat, appeared to wish early death on his potential rival in what couldn’t be ascertained whether it was an honest slip of the tongue, or a deliberate barb.

Johnson Sakaja was speaking after making an appearance on Hot96 in a morning interview which was conducted by Jeff Koinange and his show’s co-host, Nick Odhiambo.

In the wide ranging interview, Sakaja was asked to comment on the current state of football in the country, and what he thought could be the best way forward in handling the mess presently being witnessed.
In an effort to flaunt his longstanding involvement with football in Kenya, Sakaja mentioned that he grew up in a sporting family where his father was none other than the treasurer of the now defunct Kenya Football Federation, KFF.

He told his hosts that he carried from his childhood days, memories of people such as Joab Omino. However, shockingly, he said he also remembered ”The late Peter Kenneth”. What was more disturbing than the fact that he didn’t correct himself is that none of his two hosts bothered to correct him either.

This wasn’t the only controversial thing that Sakaja mentioned. As he went further ahead, he mentioned that he had been part of the section that looked into Nick Mwendwa’s issue in Senate, and supported that the government should pursue the issue of misappropriation to the fullest. He added that it didn’t matter if FIFA banned the country due to state interference in the federation’s matter since, Harambee Stars were already out of contention for participation in any major tournament, “and it’s only Harambee Starlets that will suffer”.
