Ruto’s UDA in panic mode, after registrar of parties latest announcement

After spending millions upon millions to set up their head offices in an expensive prime property, and even more millions in countrywide popularisation tours which saw them rebrand, and organise meetings that yielded nomination for candidates in forthcoming byelections, now uncertainty looms following a suggestive statement yesterday by Anne Nderitu, the parties registrar, which hinted at de-registration

Ms. Anne Nderitu, the Registrar of Political Parties, spoke after meeting Nyandarua governor Francis Kimemia in his Ol Kalou town office.

The registrar stated categorically that they were keenly following events in the country, and would not allow parties without strong manifestos to play politics that is aimed at dividing Kenyans.

This comes hot on the heels of the establishment of the United Democratic Alliance party, which has been rebranded from PDR, and is closely linked to the deputy president, who has even gone as far as endorse its nominees. UDA has faced harsh criticism for fomenting what has been termed as a class war due to its preferred adopted narrative of Hustlers, who are the poor, and that need protection from the rich, who have been branded Dynasties.

In a further statement that will, no doubt, have proponents from the coast, who have been pushing for a coastal political party worried, miss Nderitu also emphasied on the formation of parties that are known across the country, stressing on the point that this wasn’t simply just a question of decent behaviour, but a legal obligation required by the Political Parties registration Act.
“Our office is committed towards strengthening the political parties based on their ideologies and manifesto so as we can have parties that do not just collapse after the election period.I am urging political parties to continue generating their manifestos as we approach the 2022 elections so that we can play politics of development and not dividing Kenyans,”

Before this statement, her host, Kimemia, had also spoken on the need to shun parties that were only meant to win elections and nothing more, urging Jubilee leadership to punish errant members in what was a clear allusion to UDA.
