Deputy President William Ruto seems to have now taken his rivalry with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to a whole different level that entails saying publicly what he might have been told privately.
Even as the lieutenants of the two men appeared to send each other friendly signals over the weekend, implying that the two adversaries might still work together in the future, Ruto was ruthlessly tearing into his possible 2022 main competitor.
Over the weekend, Kirinyaga women represantative, Ngirici, had appeared to imply that the DP’s camp is open to working with Raila and Kalonzo Musyoka, while earlier, the former PM’s own brother had said that the door to negotiations between Raila Odinga and William Ruto still remained open.
William Ruto, who on the other hand was on a three day tour to Meru, decided to share with the masses what he presented as information that had just reached him through sources which he didn’t reveal.
The DP told the crowd that word had reached him that the former Prime Minister was tirelessly trying to trick the president and get him to agree on a devious plan which entails him lying to the public that it was Raila, and not him, the DP, who helped with most of the Jubilee development projects that have been achieved thus far.
He said that this was just one of the many schemes that Raila had devised to try and employ in a bid to bolster his chances ahead of the 2022 polls, but he reiterated that they wouldn’t work.
Maintaining what has, in recent days, become his attack strategy, he made sure to reserve something in his bag of unsavory words for the newly formed union of Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Gideon Moi.
Ridiculing them for what he perceived as their lack of ability, he dismissed them, declaring them unable to continue with Uhuru’s development projects.
He declared himself as the best suited to carry on from where the president would leave it, and implored the residents to give him a chance.
