Deputy President William Ruto has began his three-day tour of the Coast region as he intensifies his campaigns ahead of 2022 Presidential elections.
According to his 3-day schedule for the coastal region, Ruto is expected to visit Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale counties.
The second in command will commission development projects undertaken by his allied lawmakers, grace church functions and raise money for several beneficiaries with a view to wooing the coastal residents to join his ‘Hustler movement’ and also to popularise his bottom-up economy approach.
The Deputy President arrived in the region on Saturday morning and was hosted by Members of Parliament; Aisha Jumwa and Owen Baya among other leaders in Kilifi county.
Ruto is expected to pitch camp in Mombasa county, Nyali constituency hosted by area Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali and former Senator Hassan Omar in the afternoon.
The DP will commission some development projects in Nyali Constituency and later hold a meeting with grassroots leaders.
Ruto will grace a church fundraiser and later in the afternoon attend another church function in Lunga Lunga hosted by area Member of Parliament Khatib Mwashetani on Sunday in Kilifi county.
Ruto had attended a Coast Economic Regeneration Forum that brought together leaders from six Coastal counties during his last visit to the region where he pupularise his bottom-up economic approach.
His tour to the Coast is coming weeks after his political arch-rival Raila visited the region three times last month.
The former Prime Minister was the chief guest during an event for the renewal of Mvita’s National Hospital Insurance Fund issuance of cards to more than 3,000 vulnerable families.
Four weeks ago, he was also the chief guest during the launch of the Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab) at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital which was launched by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
