As the ripple effects of last week’s stunning and sensational withdrawal of GSU security officers from homes of the deputy president continue to be felt, a Ruto ally has now come up with a coded parable which is the clearest indication so far yet of where this entire development is headed.
Prior to the comments by Ruto’s ally, the Deputy President himself said yesterday while addressing crowds in Bahati, Nakuru, that he wasn’t concerned about the entire issue to do with which category of police was guarding him, and that as a matter of fact, he would much rather police officers are deployed in areas such as the northern parts of the country where insecurity is rampant.
Hustler Nation’s avowed supporter and Deputy President defender Gerald Bitok, while addressing the topic of the withdrawal of GSU officers from the DP’s security detail, claimed that even as this was happening, there was a certain house in Karen on Masai lane that was being provided with 24 hour police security, yet the owner of the house wasn’t a government official, but rather, just an ordinary civilian.
This was a clear and obvious reference to the former Prime Minister and Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga who has been enjoying cordial relations with the government ever since the Handshake.
Since the withdrawal of GSU security officers from the deputy president’s homes happened, the to and fro has been between the two camps belonging to the president and his deputy. The former Prime Minister has been spared of any involvement in the matter, and this is the first time that a deliberate attempt is being made to connect him to the whole issue.
Earlier on during the entire fiasco, in a statement issued by Police Spokesman Bruno Shioso, the IG said Ruto still maintains close protection from the elite Presidential Escort.
“This is a normal re-assignment of duties within the National Police Service to enhance efficiency and effectiveness,” Mutyambai said, “the Presidential Escort Unit continues to provide close protection security to the Deputy President.”
