Ruto Allies From Nyanza Fault Him For Constantly Attacking CS Matiang’i

The people working with Deputy President are the same ones weakening him and his plans for next year’s general elections, a section of leaders from the Gusii nation have warned.

They have taken issue with allies of the DP bashing Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i over the DP’s latest woes, the change and reduction of his home protection.

This is after the National Police Service on Thursday last week reduced the number of officers manning the DP’s four residential premises in Nairobi and Uasin Gishu.

The service also gave the DP officers from the Administration Police department, in place of the elite General Service Unit commandos who previously guarded his homes.

This has seen some of his allies name Matiang’i as one of the persons being used by the state to frustrate Ruto, a move the Kisii leaders have warned could be dangerous.

They have admitted that the CS, being in charge of things to do with police, might have had something to do with the changes, but on the orders of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Whatever Matiang’i does, he does it on behalf of the President. Ruto is the Second in Command so those people trying to create a wedge between him and some communities are not helping but destroying him,” they said at the parliament buildings on Tuesday.

The team, which was addressing the press in parliament on Tuesday, was led by Kitutu Chache MP Richard Onyonka and his Borabu counterpart Bernard Momanyi.

They said that as a community, they consider Matiang’i their leader and Ruto, who is eyeing the presidency, should not expect their vote if his men continue bashing the civil servant.

Onyonka advised Ruto to stop the attacks being fired by his allies and look for the President so that the can solve the issue.

“The existing issue is between the President and the Deputy President. Let the DP look for the President and talk to him about it. When you attack a junior officer there is no way they can respond,” he said.

Also present was Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama, who also defended the CS.

But the DP has accepted the changes and on Monday met his new officers for tea at his Karen residence. He has also said that he has no problem even if they too are taken away.
