John Kamau and Mary Kyalo

DCI detectives on Monday September 16, nabbed two Machakos county based suspects in connection with the Nairobi West ATM Heist money trail.

One of the suspects, 60 year old Mary Kyalo, was arrested in her home in Kalumoni village, Machakos county where the detectives recovered ksh. 2,389,000. Mary was busted after her grandson and one of the key suspects, John Kamau Mulei, led detectives to her home.

Mulei, who is said to be a close relation to a G4S officer who fed the gang with crucial inside information that aided the theft, was arrested at Muumandu village in Machakos county.

Reports indicate that the ATM Heist was orchestrated successfully with the help of an inside man and stray police officers. Detectives had on September 12, arrested a G4S officer who was believed to be part of the gang that did away with ksh 72 million.

Mary and Kamau will undergo grilling at the DCI offices to ascertain their respective roles in the ATM Heist.
