Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is at the center of a clash between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto. Kirinyaga politicians allied to DP William Ruto and the amorphous Tanga Tanga outfit have put in place an elaborate scheme to kick out the governor from office. Already, with the help of top Tanga Tanga politicians, an impeachment plot is already in the works, led by Majority Leader in the Kirinyaga County Assembly Kamau Murango.
However, Jubilee A, also known as Kieleweke, allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta is against this plot. As a result, the president has tasked Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju to thwart these attempts. The fight has been so nasty that Tuju fired the Majority Leader in Kirinyaga County Assembly. This has angered Tanga Tanga MPs. Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was the first fire salvo at Tuju, telling him he had no authority to meddle with affairs of Kirinyaga County.
” The position of the Leader of Majority as enshrined in the Constitution, the Law and the Standing Orders is the preserve of the members of the County Assembly, the National Assembly and the Senate as the case may be. Hon Raphael Tuju or any other busy body has no business appointing or dismissing Majority Leaders,” Kuria said on Saturday.
Governor Anne Waiguru is among the few top politicians in the Mt Kenya region who have stood by President Uhuru and is one of his ardent defenders. It is out of this reason that the head of state has come to her defense. Also, Waiguru is seen as a valuable player in 2022 politics as well as the BBI process. Her presence in the president’s camp is critical and kicking her out of office would be a huge win for DP Ruto.
