A county sports official has offered a lasting solution to men suffering in silence as they are faced with extreme attacks and constant war of words with their spouses during this period that families have been forced to stay at home following government directives to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The Homabay County Executive Committee member for Sports, Gender and Culture Fredrick Odero is advising men with stubborn wives to return them to their parents so as to reduce the increased number of domestic violence cases increased by the stay at home directive.

In his campaign against the gender based violence, Odero was targeting men not brave enough to come to the public to talk about their toxic relationships.

He advised them that the most honorable thing to do when found under such circumstance is to terminate their troubled marriages as a long lasting solution in finding peace at their respective homes.

Experts had warned that a combination of economic and social stresses brought on by the pandemic, as well as restrictions on movement to slow the spread of the coronavirus, could lead to an increase in domestic violence.

Notably, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of domestic violence complaints in the country since March when President Kenyatta announced the coronavirus restrictions.

The United Nations termed the situation a “growing crisis within a crisis,” estimating that the lockdown will result in millions of domestic violence cases worldwide.
