Former KTN sports journalist Robert Soi has passed on at the Nairobi Hospital following complications from a brain surgery.
His family has revealed that prior to his death, Soi was admitted to the Nairobi Hospital last week after he was involved in an accident that left him with head injuries and was scheduled for a surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain.
Former KTN Sports journalist underwent surgery at the facility then slipped into a coma before passing on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 in the afternoon.
Until his death, Soi was working at China Global Television Network (CGTN) where he had moved to after working at KTN as a sports news presenter.
He was married to Aljazeera journalist Catherine Soi with whom he had two children.
His friends and colleagues have since taken to social media to pass their condolence messages to the family:
“Our brother and colleague Robert Soi #Strong. #Tragic Go well brother,” Geoffrey Mosoku, a former colleague stated.
“RIP Robert Soi former KTN sports presenter. Once shared a drink with him years ago. Quite friendly, we bumped into each other and hugged like old buddies, yet that was the first time we met. Pole sana Catherine. Genuinely sad to have learnt about Robert`s demise,” Tairas Waiyaka stated.
His death came a month after former Taifa leo sub-editor Dennis Geoffrey Mauya, alias Mauya Omauya, collapsed and died.
Autopsy results indicated that Omauya succumbed to a cardiac arrest. The deceased had joined the Nation Media Group in 2007. He, however, left a year after for further studies.
