Raila Ally Advises Him To Take Martha Karua As His 2022 Running Mate

An ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga has proposed the person he thinks would best suit the former Prime Minister as his running mate for the heavily awaited next year’s presidential contest.

Raila is yet to announce or give a hint on who he will be picking as his running mate and possible deputy afterwards, even as every indication shows that the person will be from the populous Mt Kenya region.

But Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has suggested that the best person for the job would be former Cabinet Minister Martha Karua, who doubles up as a former Gichugu Member of Parliament.

In a tweet, he opines that such a ticket would win and help Raila beat his opponents.

“Raila Odinga +Martha Karua Hapo Vipi Wakenya?” he poses in a tweet, with his followers who came out o respond to the tweet saying that the ticket will break only months later due to fighting between the two.

His suggestion comes amid reports that Raila might not have the power to pick his running mate, who, according to the local dailies, will be picked for him by the Mt Kenya Foundation members.

Among the proposed names, The Star earlier reported, is former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Royal Media Chairman SK Macharia, Equity Bank CEO James Mwangi and Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui.

Raila on Wednesday carried on with his campaigns, pitching tent in Nairobi county, where he promised a better economy if Kenyans elect him.

“I have come here to announce, because I know there is an economic depression prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic. I know that the cost of living has shot up, prices of commodities have hit the ceiling. I promise you better days by transforming our economy. I will focus on the downtrodden and SMEs,” he said.

The leader is up against among others, Deputy President William Ruto, and members of the OKA coalition, who have also vowed to be in the ballot.
