President Uhuru Still Non-committal About Supporting Raila Despite Mt Kenya Foundation Endorsing Him

President Uhuru Kenyatta is not sure yet that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga is the man he has picked to succeed him when he retires next year, it now emerges.

This is even as everything points at him settling for the former Premier, but an interesting remark would be made when Raila met members of the Mt Kenya Foundation at the Safari Park Hotel yesterday.

The MKF members, most Kikuyu tycoons who are known to bankroll presidential aspirants, said that the President directed them to vet five of the politicians seeking to succeed him and not Raila alone.

MKF Vice Chair Titus Ibui made it clear that Uhuru had earlier told them to help him identify his ideal successor, the others being the four members of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) coalition.

“When the President called us for a meeting at Sagana, he asked us what kind of advice we could give him on who should succeed him,” he said.

“We told him that we will not give you a name but the kind of a person that will ensure continuity, someone we can sit down with and discuss the way forward, and someone who will not disturb our businesses,” Mr Ibui added, in the presence of Raila.

OKA consists Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya and Gideon Moi of the KANU party. The other one is ANC chief Musalia Mudavadi, who says that he must be in the ballot.

But this is even as sources hint that Uhuru is also banking on the same to unite the camp and have it face his estranged deputy William Ruto, whom he seems to have disowned, as a united front.

Ibui made it clear that they will be listening to all the leaders before retreating back to give the President name of their most preffered man.

The President has made it clear that he is against a fellow Kikuyu or Kalenjin like Ruto succeeding him, and in Sabatia, Vihiga County earlier in the year, said that it is time another community offered leadership.
