President Uhuru Set To Pitch Tent In Sagana State Lodge To Campaign For Raila Odinga In Mt Kenya

President Uhuru Kenyatta will temporarily leave his official residence in Nairobi to camp at the one in Nyeri County as part of his strategy to influence his succession, sources have revealed.

He has already made it clear that he will be seeking to have a say on who succeeds him, after reports that he is the force behind the Mt Kenya Foundation’s attempts to settle on the best next president.

Fresh details now suggest that he plans to camp at the Sagana State Lodge to be close to his Mt Kenya region, which he intends to rally behind his preffered successor; ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Sources aware of the plans told The Standard that this is because Uhuru has realized that things are not calm in his region, which could make it hard for Raila to get the amount of votes he would want him to.

The paper was told that the number of new parties coming up in the region have not impressed Uhuru, who would like majority of the leaders, including those ones forming the parties, to back Raila.

As a result, his plan is to be somewhere where he can easily be meeting area politicians, hoping that this way, he can steady the ship and pave the way for a smooth Raila takeover next year.

“The President is committed to sorting out issues in his backyard. His people have raised a number of issues and he wants to separate facts from untruths by having a candid conversation with his people before giving them the signal on whom to support to succeed him,” a source told the paper.

Uhuru has twice confirmed that he has indeed settled in the former Premier and while speaking in Thiba on Monday, confirmed that he indeed is the man who sent him to hold the rallies he recently held in Central.

He also confirmed the sources’ claims, saying that he indeed will be making a pronouncement about the direction the region should take, but said that he will be doing this at the right time.

“But don’t give them the benefit of wanting to decide your political future. For that wait for my signal on where we should be heading to,” said the President.

His seems like a plan to neutralise his embattled and defiant deputy William Ruto, who was seen to have the region in his pocket initially, but who, according to polls, is now gradually losing it to Raila.
