President Uhuru Kenyatta will once again visit the Lakeside City of Kisumu on Tuesday next week, barely two months after his last visit in the region. The Head of State is expected to be the keynote speaker at this year’s KUSI Ideas Festival, which will be held in Kenya after Rwanda hosted the same event last year in Kigali.
There are also reports that the Head of State could officially open the Kisumu Port during his Kisumu visit. Last year, ODM leader Raila Odinga was the keynote speaker at the inaugural event which was hosted by President Paul Kagame.
Nation Media Group (NMG) launched the Kusi Ideas Festival early in 2019 as part of its 60th-anniversary celebrations, to be an “ideas transaction market” for the challenges facing Africa, and the various solutions and innovations the continent is undertaking to secure its future in the 21st century.
On his last visit, President Uhuru’s stayed in Kisumu for two days after leading this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Gusii Stadium on October 20th. It was during his tour of the Nyanza region that the Head of State and ODM leader Raila Odinga received the BBI Report, which would later be unveiled to the public the following week, at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.
Next week’s Kisumu visit comes at a time when the signature collection exercise for the BBI is ongoing. Kisumu, the bedrock of the ODM Party and Raila Odinga’s hometown has shown overwhelming support of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime since March 2018.
