Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta is among the high-profile dignitaries currently attending the state funeral mass of the late Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli at Uhuru grounds.
President Kenyatta was accompanied by the Sports Heritage and culture Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed and arrived at the Dodoma’s Uhuru grounds minutes after 10 AM.
Other heads of states who also attended the mass include, South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, Malawi’s Lazarus Chakwera, Botswana’s Mokgweetsi Masisi, and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame.
Others are Zambia’s Edgar Lungu, Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa, and DR Congo’s Felix Tshisekedi.
The late President John Pombe Magufuli will be laid to rest on March 25th, 2021 at his Chato home.
His body will remain at the Uhuru grounds in Dodoma for public viewing the entire day before it is moved to Mwanza tomorrow march 23.
His body will then be moved to his Chato town on the same day, where his constituents will have a chance to view it too before burial.
On March 24, it shall be the family members and all international and invited guests will have their chance before the burial takes place on March 25.
President Magufuli had been taken ill on February 6, 2021, and admitted to the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute in Tanzania where he had been receiving treatment for a heart ailment.
Following his death, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that Kenya will be honoring 7 days of National mourning with the Kenyan and East African Community flags flying half-mast within the Country, and Kenyan territories in the diaspora.
“The flag of the East African Community and the flag of the Republic of Kenya shall be flown at half-mast in honor of Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli,” Uhuru said.
Uhuru also pledged his support to the new administration during the trying times, adding that they would work as a team with the Tanzanians to ensure that Magufuli was given a befitting sendoff
“Nilipata nafasi leo asubuhi ya kuongea na naibu wa rais Suluhu Hassan na nikamhakikishia ya kwamba twasimama pamoja naye wakati huu mgumu na tutaendelea kushirikiana na yeye na serikali ya Tanzania na pamoja na wananchi wote wa Tanzania mpaka tuhakikishe mzee wetu Magufuli tumempumzisha,” he said.
