Police storm former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri’s meeting

Police officers on Saturday, June 5, 2021 raided former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary and a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, Mwangi Kiunjuri’s meeting.

The Service Party (TSP) leader was holding a recruitment drive meeting for his party before a contingent of armed police stormed the venue and lobbed teargas at the attendees forcing them to run for their safety.

The meeting was attended by a number of aspirants eyeing for various political seats.

In a video that was circulated on the social media, Kiunjuri was seen addressing journalists but was not able to complete his sentiments as the police lobbed teargas, dispersing the attendees.

Speaking shortly after the incidence, the former Agriculture CS condemned the police for their actions terming it as political intolerance.

“The most important thing that should be noted is that as we are speaking, there are other individuals holding meetings elsewhere,” Kiunjuri stated.

This comes barely days after police in Mombasa stormed another United Democratic Alliance (UDA) meeting forcing the attendees from Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale out of the premises.

“We had taken all necessary precautions. We had masks on, sanitized and maintained social distance,” one of the attendees stated.

“We will use other platforms such as social media to engage with each other. We will regroup and show the country our unity,” another attendee stated.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has recently adopted the same rule across the political divide after he was accused of frustrating other political factions.

“Even if we have to pool resources with UDA and ODM and make dealing with him a joint project; since he’s already also tried to run over them too.

“Sometimes you must deal with the crack, before it brings down the building. We can’t keep allowing some bureaucrats to keep making our politics harder than it already is, or should be…Bonchari was a mistake,” Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu stated.
